Superior will take center stage in the national racing world this summer as the National Interstate Battery High Limit Racing sprint car series makes its debut at Gondik Law Speedway on June 4 — bringing one of the sport’s fastest-growing national tours to the Twin Ports.
Founded by NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson and sprint car standout Brad Sweet, the
High Limit series features many of the top drivers in the country and marks a major moment for
Superior’s presence on the national dirt racing map.
The high-profile event arrives during a milestone year for the track, as Gondik Law Speedway
celebrates its 65th annual season — a tradition that has drawn generations of drivers and fans to
the Douglas County Fairgrounds and helped establish Superior as a longstanding hub for grassroots
racing in the Upper Midwest.
That momentum continues into Independence Day weekend, when the 10th Annual Great Lakes
Border Battle returns July 3–4. The two-night event, part of the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late
Model Challenge Series, brings together top regional competitors and highlights the cross-state
rivalry between Wisconsin and Minnesota that has long defined racing culture in the Twin Ports.
Beyond the grandstands, Superior’s racing culture extends to hands-on experiences at Black River
Motorsports Park – located just south of Superior near Pattison State Park – where autocross
events and grassroots racing programs invite drivers of all skill levels to get behind the wheel.
Revitalized in recent years through community support, the park has become a hub for
participatory motorsports in northern Wisconsin — offering a more accessible, driver-focused
complement to the region’s larger-scale racing events.
