For more than 65 years, the Development Association has helped shape the economic future of Superior and Douglas County by championing business growth, supporting entrepreneurs, and bringing community leaders together around shared opportunities. As the organization looks toward the future, it has introduced a refreshed brand identity designed to better reflect both its mission and its role in the region.
The previous logo served the organization well, featuring a collection of triangles arranged into a larger triangular form. While contemporary when it was introduced, the symbol no longer fully reflected how the Development Association operates today. The new identity builds upon that foundation, retaining the familiar triangular shapes while giving them new meaning.

At the center of the new logo is a bold “D” monogram formed from individual triangles of varying sizes. Each piece represents a different part of the local business ecosystem—from entrepreneurs launching their first venture to established employers that have helped shape the community for generations. While each triangle stands on its own, they come together to create something stronger, more stable, and more impactful than any single piece could achieve alone.
This idea mirrors the Development Association itself. Its strength comes from its members, partners, investors, community leaders, and business owners who work together to create opportunities, solve challenges, and support long-term economic growth. The logo serves as a visual reminder that progress is not created by one organization acting alone—it is built through collaboration.
The refresh also places greater emphasis on the word “Development.” While the organization has always been known as the Development Association, the previous identity visually elevated the word “Association.” The new system shifts focus to the organization’s true purpose: development. Whether supporting startups, connecting businesses to funding, advocating for infrastructure investments, or helping employers navigate change, development is the common thread that connects every service the organization provides.
That same thinking influenced another important change. For years, the organization has operated business incubators that provide affordable space and support for emerging entrepreneurs. These facilities have helped dozens of businesses launch, grow, and eventually move into permanent locations throughout the community. In 2025 alone, the organization supported 32 startup, early-stage, and distressed businesses through its incubator network.
To strengthen the connection between these programs and the organization itself, the former Superior Business Centers were renamed as the Development Centers. The three locations are now known as the Development Center on Hughitt, the Development Center on Eighth, and the Development Center on Tower. This creates a clearer relationship between the organization’s mission and the places where that mission comes to life every day.
The updated visual identity extends beyond the logo. A comprehensive brand system was developed to create consistency across printed materials, signage, photography, digital communications, business cards, presentation materials, and the organization’s website. The goal was to create a cohesive and approachable presence that reflects both professionalism and accessibility while helping the organization communicate more effectively with businesses of every size.
The timing of this update is particularly significant.
As Superior and Douglas County prepare for the impacts of the Blatnik Bridge reconstruction project, businesses throughout the region face a period of uncertainty and transition. The Development Association has already begun leading conversations, conducting research, and advocating for resources that will help businesses navigate the disruption while positioning the community for future success. The organization’s 2025 annual report identifies the bridge closure as one of its defining priorities, requiring coordinated action, coalition building, and sustained advocacy to support local businesses through the coming years.
A strong brand alone cannot solve those challenges. But it can help unite people around a common vision.
More than a new logo, the refreshed identity reflects an organization focused on connection, collaboration, and shared progress. It is a visual representation of what has always made the Development Association effective: bringing people together to create opportunities that strengthen businesses, neighborhoods, and the broader community.
As Superior enters its next chapter, the Development Association’s new brand serves as both a reflection of its history and a symbol of its future—one built by many, strengthened through partnership, and focused on guiding growth at any scale.
