Hands-on Learning About Restoration Work in Allouez Bay and on Wisconsin Point
What’s happening on the St. Louis River right now — and how can local residents be part of its future?
The St. Louis River Alliance, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, is launching River Revival, a new monthly community event series connecting Superior residents with restoration efforts happening at Wisconsin Point and Allouez Bay, while highlighting the cultural and ecological stories of the St. Louis River Estuary. The series aims to make river restoration accessible and community-driven while creating opportunities for residents to ask questions, share perspectives and connect with the river.
Hosted on the third Thursday of each month from April through September, River Revival brings community members together to learn about ongoing restoration work through presentations, creative activities, and informal conversation with local partners, knowledge holders, and restoration professionals.
River Revival Event Dates April 16 • May 21 • June 18 • July 16 • August 20 • September 17
April River Revival Event 4/16
Anishinaabe Canoe Migration: Culture and Connection on the St. Louis River
The inaugural River Revival event will take place Thursday, April 16 from 5–6:30 p.m. at the Superior Public Library. Featured speaker Giizh Agaton Howes, Anishinaabe artist, educator and community organizer with Heart Berry, will share the story of the approximately 11-mile inaugural Anishinaabe Canoe Migration held on the St. Louis River in 2025. Paddlers retraced ancestral waterways from Chambers Grove to Woodstock Bay, reconnecting community, culture and water while reflecting on the cultural importance of the river and Wisconsin Point.
Following the presentation, attendees are invited to participate in a river-inspired block printing activity (all materials provided). Wisconsin DNR staff will also share updates on restoration work underway at Wisconsin Point and Allouez Bay and answer community questions.
Community members of all ages are welcome to attend.
