The City of Superior is known for many things, but above all, we know how to have a good time. This 4th of July, the community is coming together for a day full of festivities that honor both our nation’s history and the local traditions that make this city unique.
For the 29th annual year, Superior’s Fourth of July Celebration offers something for everyone: parades, classic cars, live music, local vendors and, of course, a spectacular fireworks show to mark the end of a perfect day.
As we look ahead to the United States’ 250th birthday – the semiquincentennial – this celebration feels even more meaningful. It gives us reasons to come together with our community near and far, bringing residents and visitors to our city for a day filled with fun, connection and hometown pride.

Schedule of Events
4th of July Parade and Flyover – 11 a.m.
Kick off the day along Belknap Street with one of Superior’s most cherished traditions. The parade features festive floats, marching groups, noisy firetrucks, local organizations and a patriotic flyover by the Bulldogs of the 148th Fighter Wing that will bring energy and excitement to the start of this holiday. Be sure to arrive early to grab a good viewing spot, and maybe a pocketful of candy!
To help you plan your viewing location, refer to the parade route map and keep the following road closures in mind for a safe and enjoyable experience.
Belknap Street (Mortorelli Drive to Ogden Avenue): Closed in both directions from 10 a.m. until approximately 12:30–1 p.m.
Ogden Avenue (Belknap Street to North 14th Street): Closed from 10 a.m. until approximately 12:30–1 p.m.

Dennis VanAlstine Memorial Car & Motorcycle Show – Noon-6 p.m.
Following the parade, head over to Tower Avenue, between Belknap and Broadway, for a showcase of classic cars and motorcycles. Hosted by MicWicked Promotions, this event honors the legacy of local drag racer Dennis VanAlstine and brings together antique vehicle enthusiasts from across the region.
Tower Avenue will be rocking with live music by the local band Flip Side, as well as a line of various food vendors.

Barkers Island Celebration – 4-11 p.m.
As the day continues, the celebration shifts to Barker’s Island for an evening filled with live music, food trucks, local vendors and waterfront views. Barkers Island festivities offer a diverse array of entertainment for all ages, interests and backgrounds. There is something for all to enjoy!
New this year, the Harbor Market adds even more opportunities to shop from local artists and explore unique goods from area businesses. More details to come.
Live music will bring the energy, beginning with sibling-duo Traxx and Rokkyn Nelson-Kavajecz of Born Too Late, whose sound channels inspiration from bands like Fleetwood Mac and Guns N’ Roses. Featuring Ron Occhino on lead vocals, Dave Risdon on lead guitar, Mark Wiita on keyboards, Jim Hunter on bass, and Tom Henderson on drums, the Northern Thunder Band will headline this event, performing crowd-favorite hits across more than four decades of music.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, enjoy the lakeside breeze and settle in for a full evening of entertainment!
A Finale of Fireworks
Superior will end the night with a dazzling fireworks display over the harbor. It’s the perfect grand finale to a day of celebration. The fireworks will be set off from a barge behind the Barker’s Island Park Pavilion.
The Team Behind the Celebration
A day as exciting as Superior’s Fourth of July Celebration does not happen by accident. Behind the scenes, a team of dedicated staff and volunteers work year-round, curating every minor detail.
At the center of it all is Jodi Saylor, the City of Superior’s Volunteer, Events and Program Coordinator. Since joining the City in 2020, Saylor has played a key role in planning and implementing new and exciting community opportunities across the Superior region.
Planning for the Fourth of July begins almost as soon as the previous celebration ends. “It really starts on July 5th,” Saylor explains, as the team gathers for recap meetings, evaluates what worked well, and begins securing bookings for the following year.
The event is a true team effort, made possible through collaboration with Bridgit Maruska, Director of Parks and Recreation, along with Parks and Street staff, community partners, and volunteers from the Police Auxiliary.
Saylor emphasizes what makes this day special: “There is something for everyone throughout the day. From young to old, you can find something to entertain you and be a part of your celebration.”
Thanks to the dedication and coordination behind the scenes, Superior’s Fourth of July continues to be a meaningful and memorable tradition for the entire community.
