Empower Nutrition’s Small Business Journey
When walking through the doors of Empower Superior Nutrition, customers quickly realize the local business is much more than a simple transactional visit. You are greeted by a warm smile, a friendly hello and an owner who likely remembers your name and your favorite order.
For Alexandra Boucher, that personal touch is not a marketing strategy. It is the cornerstone of her entire business philosophy.
Seven years ago, Alexandra founded Empower Superior Nutrition with a clear vision. The focus was to promote healthy lifestyles and offer accessible, delicious nutrition to those seeking positive change in their daily routine. What started as a passion project to help community members lead healthier lives has grown into a cherished local hub.

“I always wanted to create something that treated everyone right, that made them feel special when they walked through the doors,” Boucher said. “I believe a small business should know its customers’ names and be that friendly face each and every time someone steps through the door.”
In an era increasingly dominated by online ordering and automated kiosks, Boucher said she remains steadfastly committed to the foundational values of small-business hospitality. It is what has kept her business thriving over the years.
For her regular patrons, Empower Superior Nutrition is more than a spot to grab a meal-replacement shake, an energizing tea or a healthy snack. Boucher said they take the time to learn the stories behind the faces, celebrating health milestones alongside their customers and offering an encouraging place for anyone starting a new wellness journey.
That commitment to customer care extends beyond conversation. It is reflected in how Boucher operates her storefront day in and day out.
“It is important that when you post hours for your business, you’re making a promise to your customers,” Boucher said. She strongly believes that reliability is a non-negotiable part of small-business ownership. In a landscape where inconsistent hours can frustrate new and existing clients, Empower prides itself on always being open when the sign says it is.
Despite the daily grind that a small business can have on any young entrepreneur, Boucher has been able to juggle her demanding schedule and find the right balance between work and family. While she said working for yourself can create plenty of scheduling conflicts, it also has given her flexibility to be there for those precious moments with her children.
Even with a demanding schedule, Boucher has been able to be there for her family and her business.

Fueled by Local Partnership
Running a small business for seven years requires resilience, adaptivity and a strong network of local support. Less than a year ago, Empower made a connection with The Development Association (DA) in Superior. Boucher said they helped her secure a micro loan to continue to grow her business
Jim Caesar, executive director of the DA, stated the micro loan program is designed to help both new and well established small businesses with financial support. It provides critical, accessible capital designed to help expand and navigate the operational challenges of maintaining a brick-and-mortar presence.
“It is designed to support our businesses in Douglas County, like Empower, with some assistance in a timely manner,” Caesar said. “We help them through the process so they are able to keep running their business.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to build a connection with The Development Association over this past year,” Boucher said. “Jim (Caesar) has been very helpful and supportive of my business. Boucher added that it is a wonderful service for Superior to have business organizations like the Development Association that truly care about seeing small businesses succeed.
That mentorship and collaborative spirit have allowed Boucher to look toward to the future with renewed energy, ensuring Empower can continue serving its loyal customer base while adapting to meet the community’s evolving wellness needs.
Healthier Future for Superior
As Empower Superior Nutrition steps past its seven-year mark, Boucher’s mission remains as focused as the day she opened. In a community like Superior, a successful business does more than sell products. It can be that important anchor for the neighborhood, foster future connections and leave people feeling better than when they walked in.
“From an early age I always knew I wanted to start a business just like Empower,” Boucher said. “It has been a wonderful journey so far.”
